Heat Pumps

Heat Pumps are a growing source of energy in the UK. Popular across Europe as an environmentally friendly option for heating a house we are seeing a trend to Heat Pumps being used here.

There are differing types of Heat Pumps but all work on the premise that they take energy from outside of the home and transfer it into heat to circulate around or heat up water.

Why Install a Heat Pump?

Environmentally-Friendly

Heat pumps use a renewable energy source: heat from the ground, water or surrounding air. While they use electricity to run, they generate about three times more energy than they use, making them far more environmentally-friendly than a gas, oil or electric heating system. They do not emit harmful gases, and have a relatively long life-span.

Heat Pumps UK Cost: Government Grants and Incentives

The UK government provides a Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) for homeowners wanting to install heat pump technology in their home. This scheme offers homeowners payments per unit of energy generated. The government also provides various heat pump grants to support the installation of heat pumps (UK) in both domestic and commercial properties via the Clean Heat Grant, also known as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

Heat Pumps UK Cost: Low Running Costs

Heat pumps don’t cost a lot to run, and are a fantastic way to save money on your energy bills and
gain more independence from the grid.

Minimal Maintenance

Heat pumps in general require very minimal maintenance to keep them running efficiently. They need checking regularly for leaks, and their filters often require cleaning. On top of this, it is recommended to keep the external heat pump free from debris to maximise efficiency. It is also recommended that they are inspected by a professional once every five years for their lifespan, which is typically up to 15 years.

Safer Alternative

Versatility

Many heat pumps can be reversed in the summer to act as air conditioning units. This versatility is particularly attractive for those who want to benefit from a cooling system during warmer months, but don’t want to spend the money on an air conditioning system that may only be needed a few times a year!

Types of Heat Pumps

There are three main types of heat pump:
